Stones River National Battlefield Award to a great volunteer

Jim Schroeder, Volunteer of the Year - 2Stones River National Battlefield volunteer Jim Shroeder was honored for his outstanding volunteer service to our Battlefield. Congratulations to Jim for being named the Friends of Stones River National Battlefield’s first Volunteer of the Year!

Jim has played an important role in preserving the Battlefield and sharing its stories with the public for 20 years. Jim is one of a team of dedicated volunteers who contributed more than 14,000 hours of service to our Park this year.

Our volunteers were recognized by the National Park Service by earning the Hartzog Award for Outstanding Park Volunteer Service for the Southeast region. Park Ranger Jim Lewis accepted the award on behalf of the Staff of the Stones River National Battlefield. The volunteer program at the Stones River National Battlefield managed by Ranger Lewis was recognized as an example to other parks for exceptional work in program management and civic engagement.

In fiscal year 2014, the volunteers at the Stones River National Battlefield contributed 17,411 hours through the efforst of 1,678 individual volunteers, which translates to service valued at $392,618.
