Wreaths Across America, December 13, 2014

On Saturday December 17, 2016, members of the Rutherford County community will gather at Stones River National Cemetery to honor veterans during the Christmas season as part of Wreaths Across America Day.

Local squadrons of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) are gathering wreath donations and will conduct the Wreaths Across America ceremony this year at Stones River National Cemetery. The program will begin at 12 noon on Saturday December 17, 2016 at the cemetery flag pole. Parking for the event will be in the visitor center parking lot.

Specially designated wreaths for the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, and POW/MIA will be presented and placed at the cemetery flag pole. Additional wreaths will decorate graves throughout the national cemetery honoring veterans from the Civil War through Vietnam.

You can sponsor a wreath for this event at the following links. We are aiming to place a wreath at very grave in the national cemetery this year.

The Wreaths Across America story began more than twenty years ago when the Worchester Wreath Company in Harrington, Maine initiated a tradition by donating and placing wreaths on headstones of our nation’s fallen heroes at Arlington National Cemetery. Worchester Wreath Company remains a major supporter of a tradition that has spread across the nation. Information about the Wreaths Across America program can be found at www.wreathsacrossamerica.org.

Join us at Stones River National Cemetery for our fifth year of participation in this growing effort to honor the sacrifices of our veterans and to teach our youth about the high cost of our freedoms.
