Visitor Spending Effects – Economic Contributions of National Park Visitor Spending

Parks do more than preserve and interpret our nations most precious cultural and natural resources. Parks also provide important economic benefits to our neighboring communities.

In 2019, 285,000 park visitors spent an estimated $16.9 million in local gateway regions while visiting Stones River National Battlefield. These expenditures supported a total of 227 jobs, $8.6 million in labor income, $14.2 million in value added, and $23.2 million in economic output in local gateway economies surrounding Stones River National Battlefield.

Across our nation, 328 million park visitors spent an estimated $21.0 billion in local gateway regions while visiting National Park Service lands across the country. These expenditures supported a total of 341 thousand jobs, $14.1 billion in labor income, $24.3 billion in value added, and $41.7 billion in economic output in the national economy.
