Stones River National Battlefield, March 23, 2019
Our park benefited from the guidance and vision of two exceptional women prior to Superintendent Brenda’s arrival.
Superintendent Gayle Hazelwood brought he extraordinary passion for connecting with the public and the community to the park and charted our course through some of our biggest events in recent memory, including the Civil War Sesquicentennial and the 100th birthday of the National Park Service.
Mary Ann Peckham was at the helm from the 1990’s into the turn of the century overseeing a major boundary expansion in 1991 and setting the long term vision for Stones River National Battlefield through a number of critical planning efforts including our General Management Plan in 1999. Mary Ann continues to advocate for Civil War Battlefield preservation today as the Executive Director of the Tennessee Civil War Preservation Association.
